I-85/GA-400 Interchange Work Continues This Weekend

The weekend rainy forecast has put a lot of G-DOT’s road construction plans on hold. (There’s your silver lining.)

But work on the I-85 interchange with Georgia 400 is moving full speed ahead.

When it is finished, the new interchange will connect GA-400 southbound to I-85 northbound and I-85 southbound to GA-400 northbound.

It may sound confusing, but Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mark McKinnon says life will be simpler for intown drivers when the project is complete. “It will keep them off of the surface streets and allow them to make a quicker transition,” says McKinnon. “And it also will alleviate a lot of traffic congestion on those streets leading to and from Lenox Mall and up Cheshire Bridge Road and all those areas.”

But the interchange is not scheduled to be finished until the end of the year. This weekend’s work will close three lanes of traffic on I-85 northbound from Armour Drive to GA-400.
