Former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan was one of President-elect Donald Trump’s harshest critics. So much so that his views alienated him from his own Republican party.

Since then, he’s been on a mission to heal the Republican party, in Georgia and nationwide, with an advocacy organization called GOP 2.0.

Now that Trump has won a second turn in the White House, Duncan tells WABE’s “Morning Edition” that he hopes Trump does not fall back on the grievance-filled profile that brought him through the first four years and deeply divided Republicans, especially the Georgia GOP.

“Even folks like me, disgruntled Republicans, need to give Donald Trump a chance to show us who he’s going to be in his second term,” Duncan tells WABE.

Duncan even went to the Democratic National Convention and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. He claims the road journey of supporting a Democrat for president, while staying in the Republican party and not cashing in his conservative credentials, was a path to helping defeat Donald Trump. Duncan says there’s soul-searching in both parties. But now, most of all, he wants to reunite the GOP.

“Is he going to follow through with his campaign promises and try to change the direction of America? I disagree with some of those policies, but maybe he knows something I don’t.”
