Ice Cream Trucks Can Legally Sell Treats in Dekalb County
Now that summer is in full swing, Dekalb County residents will finally be able to buy ice cream from ice cream trucks. An old ordinance prohibited the sale of food from trucks on Dekalb County streets and sidewalks. Dekalb Commissioner Kathie Gannon says the commission introduced a new ordinance a few weeks ago.
“I had deferred that because we wanted to make certain that we weren’t opening up the door for all kinds of frozen foods, wrapped packaged sandwiches, those kinds of things,” she explains.
Gannon says with revised language, the new measure passed unanimously.
“We were all very thrilled that this happened,” Gannon says, “And we got out the old saying, ‘I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.’ So, we’re happy.”
Dekalb County CEO Burrell Ellis has until August 1 to sign the ordinance.
