In 1924, when asked about the role of Irving Berlin in American music, his contemporary Jerome Kern said, “Irving Berlin has no place in American music, he is American music.”
That was high praise, considering Kern himself ranks among the greatest American songwriters.
An Atlanta concert titled “There’s No Business Like Show Business: A Tribute to Irving Berlin” will be performed at the Breman Museum on June 2.
The show is a production of Flying Carpet Theatre Company, Adam Koplan, artistic director.
Music director Greg Sudmeier and Koplan join Lois Reitzes on City Lights to discuss the upcoming show.
