A Jazz Funeral for Snake Nation

The streets of Castleberry Hill will be overtaken this Saturday for the annual Flux Night. One of the spectacles that will be on display is a lantern parade led by the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons—a sort of community social club and a group of dedicated mirth-makers. They’ve led many lantern parades before—typically along new trails of the Beltline, but this one coming up, they have tailored to fit the neighborhood–and in particular, Castleberry Hill’s free and rowdy past of barrooms and brothels when it was known as “Snake Nation.”  WABE’s Myke Johns has the story.

For more on the parade, there is more info on Flux’s website. And there are plenty more photos of the saloon lanterns on the Glutton’s Facebook page.
