The Tony Award-winning, smash hit musical “Jersey Boys” is getting a Georgia revival in Sandy Springs.
This jukebox musical pioneered the format, destined for success with the infectious and irresistible music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and their larger-than-life story of star power, struggle and murky mob ties in mid-century New Jersey.
The City Springs Theatre Company is presenting a new “Jersey Boys” production at the Byers Theatre of the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center on stage from July 12 through Aug. 11. Director Shane DeLancey joined host Lois Reitzes on Monday’s edition of “City Lights” to discuss the new production.
“This isn’t a jukebox musical in the vein of things like Mamma Mia or Rock of Ages, where they’ve taken these songs and implemented them into this story,” said DeLancey when discussing the style of “Jersey Boys.”
“A lot of the Four Seasons performances are captured as part of their performance on the American bandstand or this concert or their appearances on [shows like] Ed Sullivan. Many of the numbers in the show are represented as performances as they happened in real life.
