“What is Freedom?” It’s been nearly 160 years since Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger issued General Order No. 3. The order enforced the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation and informed all the people of Texas that all enslaved Black people in Texas were free.

For “Closer Look’s annual Juneteenth special at the Atlanta History Center, host Rose Scott talks with panelists about what freedom means to them and the progress of Black Americans since 1865. Guests reflect on the triumphs and challenges that Black people have faced in the past and present in the pursuit of freedom in all aspects of their lives.

The live show included a live performance from East Point rapper Question ATL.  Following his performance, for a fireside chat, Rose talks with Dr. Catherine Meeks about racial healing and justice.
