Jury selection, plea deals among latest developments in Georgia election interference case

The sun sets on the Fulton County Courthouse, Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, in Atlanta. A bail bondsman charged alongside former President Donald Trump and 17 others has become the first defendant in the Georgia election interference case to accept a plea deal with prosecutors. Scott Hall pleaded guilty in court on Friday, Sept. 29, to five counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with performance of election duties, all misdemeanors. All eyes remain on Fulton County as new developments arise in the election interference case involving former President Donald Trump and 18 other co-defendants.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” WABE politics reporter Sam Gringlas returned to the program to discuss the latest.

During the conversation, Gringlas talked about several topics, including the conditions of bail bondsman Scott Hall’s plea deal and former President Trump’s decision to keep his trial in Fulton County and not in federal court.

“A trial date has not been set for Trump and the other co-defendants who are not going ahead with a speedy trial in October, “ said Gringlas.

Jury selection for the joint trial of attorneys Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro is expected to get underway on Oct. 20.
