Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park Expands

National Park Service

The Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is expanding by 42 acres.

The Trust for Public Land just purchased the acreage which was the site of heavy fighting between Union and Confederate troops during the Battle for Atlanta.

Park Superintendent Nancy Walther says getting the property, especially with so much development going on around the park, is a real coup. “You can actually go in there and still see some entrenchments that the soliders built almost 150 years ago,” says Walther. “It’s important for us to protect and preserve as much of the battle as possible.”

The Trust for Public Land paid $1.76 million for the property.
