Killer Mike Tried To Run For Ga. State Representative Seat

An Atlanta rapper who planned to run as a representative of Georgia’s 55th district in the state legislature wasn’t able to register in time.

Killer Mike announced Monday he was running as a write-in candidate in Tuesday’s election, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The rapper, whose real name is Michael Render, posted on Instagram he was running, but hours later sent another post, saying he couldn’t run since he never registered as a write-in candidate.

According to Georgia law, write-in votes are only counted in elections if the candidate files an official notice of the candidacy with the Secretary of State.

The 55th district seat was vacated in April after longtime politician and civil rights leader Rep. Tyrone Brooks pleaded guilty to tax fraud. There are seven other candidates.
