Lewis Named Keynote Speaker for Book Festival
John Lewis is named the keynote speaker at the Eighth Annual AJC Decatur Book Festival.Preparations are underway for one of the country's largest book festivals. WABE's John Lorinc reports the event is held in metro Atlanta.
His new book is called “March.”
“It’s the first in a series of three. And it is a graphical description of his lifelong struggle for civil and human rights,” says Philip Rafshoon, the festival’s program director.
The festival is set for August 30 through September 1.
“There’s still lots of people who like having a physical copy of a book and there’s a lot of people who want the book in e-book format. But what we’re about at the festival is bringing great authors in,” says Rafshoon.
In addition to Lewis, others scheduled to appear at this year’s festival include Richard Blanco, Naomi Wolf and former Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Marcia Clark.
“We have stuff for heavy readers, we have great literary works. We have panels on health, wellness, environmental issues, relationships,” says Rafshoon.
Roughly 75,000 people attended last year’s event.
