During his history-making career, baseball legend Hank Aaron, used to elicit warnings from pitchers like, “He’s going to swing, and he’ll go after almost anything.” That would include a long list of baseball world records and milestones, topped by the 1974 home run that would beat Babe Ruth’s record number of home run hits.
A new exhibition at the Atlanta History Center opens on April 9, the week of that historic home run’s anniversary. “More Than Brave: The Life of Henry Aaron” explores the personal story, achievements and impact of Atlanta’s all-star player through artifacts, testimonials and interactive displays, free and open to the public through next September.
In this interview, Paul Crater, Atlanta History Center vice president of collections and research, joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to share more.
