Local Residents Lose Power Due to Storm

Several hundred thousand Georgians lost power at some point Wednesday.  Some of the outages were in the city of Atlanta, including the Virginia-Highland and Morningside neighborhoods.

Will Golden and his two roommates were walking on North Highland Avenue. They were in the process of making a two mile trek to a friend’s house. Golden lost power at 8 a.m.

“It was just uh oh. It was like let’s try and conserve the energy, keep the doors closed, wrap up and get our blankets up.”

Golden and his roommates planned to spend most of the day at their friend’s and return home later.

And if their power wasn’t restored, they were going to hunker down for the rest of the storm.

“We’ve got plenty of food and water and plenty blankets and clothes. We’ll be alright. I’m sure it will be cold.”

Further down the street, Morningside resident and contractor Kosta Cassandras was on his way to work. He lost power briefly.

“It was like 7:30. I just woke up. I just heard the transformer blow outside like two houses down from me.

Cassandras is worried about what will happen if the lights go off again. He’s considering buying a generator.
