Looking Back at Atlanta’s Minor League Heyday

Baseball season is in full swing, and it seemed a good time to take a look back at Atlanta’s rich minor league legacy. For years, the Atlanta Crackers and the Atlanta Black Crackers held sway at Ponce de Leon Park.

A book by Paul Crater called Baseball in Atlanta looks back at those days, and the game that’s come a long way from its street-ball beginnings.

We met up with Crater—where else?—at a minor league match-up between the Gwinnett Braves and the Rochester Red Wings—at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. WABE’s Kate Sweeney produced the story.
