The city of Mableton was first incorporated as a city in 1912, but after four short years, in 1916, the city was disincorporated.
Now after a cityhood movement push, 110 years later, in November of 2022, voters of the unincorporated area of Mableton voted yes for a referendum to incorporate again.
Earlier this year, six council members were elected, and Michael Owens was elected as Mableton’s first-ever mayor.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” the Marine Corps veteran and cybersecurity executive told program host Rose Scott that Mableton is not only Georgia’s newest city but also now the largest city in Cobb County.
During the conversation, Owens talked about his top priorities, ongoing efforts of establishing a new city and why he believes Mableton is a hidden gem.
