MARTA To Lower Wait Times for July 4 Events

MARTA officials say the transit agency is ready for the spike in riders come July 4th.

Thursday’s agenda is full: the Peachtree Road Race, a Braves game, and fireworks specials at Centennial Park and Lenox Square.

For smoother movement around the city, MARTA Chief Operating Officer Rich Krisak says more buses and trains will made available. Train wait times will go from 15 minutes to between 5-10 minutes.

“We’re deploying probably about 200 extra people or more… so all hands will be on deck to support the operation.”

He said the system expects 40,000-50,000 more riders than normal. Krisak recommends buying Breeze cards early if possible.

“Tickets sales during the day with that large of a crowd are going to be slow. Lines are going to be queued up pretty large so if you can do that ahead of time that’s the best thing you can do.”

Krisak also reminded riders that if trains are packed, busses make a good alternative.
