MARTA Seeks Public Feedback About Atlanta Streetcar’s East Extension Project

Heather Alhadeff, assistant general manager for planning for MARTA, says more than 250 people attended a virtual meeting to hear the transit agency’s plans about extending the Atlanta Streetcar.

Alhadeff, a guest on Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” told show host Rose Scott that the east extension project is slated to be completed by 2027.

The $149 million project will extend the Atlanta Streetcar between Edgewood Avenue and south of Ponce de Leon Avenue onto the BeltLine.

“The beauty about the BeltLine project in its original vision was always envisioned to have transit as well as bike and pedestrian facilities,” Alhadeff said.

Alhadeff also discussed MARTA’s 2022 fiscal budget, how the pandemic affected transit and essential workers and how Atlantans can contribute feedback about the streetcar project by completing a survey.
