MARTA Will Partially Resume Bus Service Friday
After cancelling bus service for two days, MARTA will partially restore it on Friday morning, February 14, 2014. Beginning at 7:00 AM, buses will roll on some 30 routes.
MARTA CEO Keith Parker told WABE those routes cover more than 80% of the system’s geographic area. And service could be restored on more routes during the day, if road conditions continue to improve.
As for MARTA trains, Parker said Wednesday morning’s service suspension was unavoidable, because the ice was wearing down the moving parts of the cars–the doors, for instance. He promised the transit system will keep that in mind when it places its next order for new cars.
“We’ll make sure to buy heated windows,” Parker said. ”And we’ll make sure to have heated doors, and we’ll have heated coupler elements; we’ll have heated entryways, so that the floors don’t begin to get saturated with ice and dirt and that sort of thing.”
Parker said the rail service interruption temporarily stranded a few passengers at the airport. But he said MARTA picked them up and got them to their destinations. Parker said, because of the interruptions, he would give the system a grade of B-minus for its performance in this storm.
The MARTA web site has been only intermittently reachable over the last few days, so here is detailed information about Friday’s rail and bus schedules from the MARTA web site.
Unless weather conditions worsen we plan to run the following service for bus and rail. Please allow additional time for your trips. Depending on weather and traffic conditions, MARTA will adjust its service schedule, as needed.
