Mary Norwood Announces Run to Regain City Council Seat

Norwood will have to beat Councilman Aaron Watson for the Post 2 At-Large seat, which she held from 2002-2009.

“I very much enjoyed serving the citizens. It was an honor and a privilege and so I would like to do so again,” said Norwood.

The Buckhead resident was only about 700 votes short of defeating then-state Sen. Kasim Reed in the 2009 mayoral election.

It was a contentious race.

“Every single day we have an opportunity to be either in fast forward or looking in reverse and everybody who knows my energy and my enthusiasm and my drive knows I’m going in fast forward every day,” said Norwood.

Since January, she has served on the Fulton elections board. The Fulton County Republican Party nominated her after a board member resigned at the end of 2012.

Leading up to the November election, Norwood plans to focus on public safety and quality of life issues, while running a positive campaign.  She declined to critique Councilman Watson’s tenure.

“I don’t second guess the decisions that people make when I’m not down there making them. I don’t think that’s the appropriate thing for somebody who has been in public office to do,” said Norwood.

Buckhead attorney David Andrew Cox is also running for the Post 2 seat.
