Cinematographer Roger Deakins is a “master of the lens” who brings a photographer’s fluency in light, composition and depth to some of the most memorable imagery in cinema. You may have seen his work in “Blade Runner 2049,” the 007 installment “Skyfall,” and nearly all the Coen Brothers films.

Recently, he and his wife, James Ellis Deakins, released a book of Roger Deakins’ still photography in a collection called “Byways.”

“Team Deakins,” as they’re sometimes known, will be in Atlanta for a discussion about the book and a film screening, “The Man Who Wasn’t There,” on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Theatre.

In this interview, Roger and James Ellis Deakins joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss “Byways” and Roger’s private love for capturing the still image.

“Somehow, there was some connection between us for that long period and a number of really enjoyable films and a great sense of collaboration and fun,” Roger Deakins said.

“Team Deakins” will host a screening of “The Man Who Wasn’t There” at the Plaza Theater on Dec. 5, followed by a signing event for “Byways,” a book of Roger Deakins’ still photography.
