Public safety “remains a top discussion area and priority,” Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said following a recent meeting with Atlanta business and community leaders.
The mayor’s comments to reporters came after she briefed the 36-member Atlanta Committee for Progress during a closed-door session on June 11.
The meeting this past Friday preceded another weekend with multiple shootings. Violent crime in Atlanta is up 12% year to date, and businesses are alarmed that the trend could hurt economic development just as the city emerges from the grips of the global pandemic. Bottoms said business leaders have been involved in developing possible solutions, from employing technology to increasing Atlanta police officers patrolling the streets.
