Metro Atlanta Paying More than Nat’l Average for Fuel

The cost of filling up is still going up throughout the capital of the Peach State.

AAA reports the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded in metro Atlanta is $3.73.

“From a week ago, it looks like they rose about eight cents, so that’s certainly a sizable increase,” says AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins.

The main reason for the hike is an increase in demand, spurred by the start of the so-called summer driving season.

But, for metro Atlanta, prices may soon be peaking.

“The good news right now is that supplies are increasing.  Refinery production, that’s increased dramatically and the hope there is that supplies are going to be able  to build across the region.

Statewide, the average cost for a gallon is $3.69, about the same as the national average.

As for nearby states, the average price for a gallon in Florida is $3.74, up 30 cents from this time last year.

A gallon goes for $3.52 in Tennessee, which is a 26-cent increase from last year.
