By 2040, 1.2 million adults, age 65 and older, will be living in metro Atlanta by 2040. That figure comes from a recent report by the Atlanta Regional Commission titled “Metro Atlanta’s Senior Housing Shortage.”
The ARC also says that on average 30 percent of a household’s income can be spent on housing and still meet the federal definition of “affordable.” Today, the ARC says more than half of metro Atlanta’s seniors don’t meet that definition by spending more than 30 percent of their income on housing.
