Daniel Roberts from Hampton, Georgia, won silver in the men’s 110-meter hurdles event at the 2024 Paris Olympics Thursday afternoon.

The 26-year-old finished in 13.09 seconds. Fellow Team USA player Grant Holloway clinched gold with a clear lead, finishing in 12.99 seconds. Rasheed Broadbell from Jamaica finished in 13.09 seconds for the bronze medal.

Thursday’s medal is a first for the two-time Olympian. Roberts participated in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo but did not make it to the finals.

The Georgia athlete won the 2019 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 110-meter hurdles event and placed third at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the 110-meter hurdles event.

The metro Atlanta native attended Hampton High School, where he was a nationally-ranked 110- and 300-meter hurdler. He also played football for the school’s team until he suffered a knee injury, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament.

Members of the Hampton High School football team gathered to watch Roberts compete in the Olympics final Thursday.
