Monday Is Final Day For Primary Election Voter Registration
Monday is the last day Georgians can register to vote in the upcoming primary election.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp said if a Georgia resident wants to vote in the May 20 primary election, he or she will have to register before midnight Monday.
“Our county election officials need time to be able to get you in the system, make sure you show up in the electronic poll books and that all your information is verified,” Kemp said.
The secretary of state said Georgians have options when registering.
Earlier this month, Kemp’s office rolled out a new online voter registration program. To sign up digitally, prospective voters can use the Secretary of State’s website or a mobile app, though either a Georgia driver’s license or state-issued ID is needed.
Residents can also still register the traditional way by turning in a completed application at any state-designated location or sending one through the mail.
“Simply fill out that form and make sure it gets postmarked with today’s date on it because today is the deadline,” Kemp said.
This year’s ballot includes a number of high-profile elections, including those for governor, U.S. Senate and all of Georgia’s congressional seats.
Early voting begins next week.
