More Paperwork for Some at DDS
After nearly three weeks since the state implemented new driver’s license and secure ID document requirements, Susan Mittleman reports that some residents face yet another paperwork hurdle.
‘Slow, but steady,’ is how the Georgia Department of Driver Services describes improvements statewide. Spokesperson, Susan Sports.
“We still have longer than we’d like waits, they’re still unacceptable to us and we are monitoring the situation hourly and identifying areas where we can improve.”
Sports says one area needing improvement is when customers have had a legal name change, such as marriage, divorce, or adoption.
“If you’re name has changed from your birth certificate, due to marriage or legal action, you must provide documents supporting your name change”.
This legal paper trail is in addition to the three forms of ID you must bring to prove who you are: an original birth certificate or passport, a document with a social security number, and two documents proving residence.
This was already required for those getting their first Georgia license but now applies to renewals as well.
