More Passengers to Fly This Summer, Trade Group Predicts

International travel is expected to set an all-time record this summer, according to a report released Thursday by the airline industry trade group Airlines for America.

A4A also projects summer travel to reach its highest level in six years, with US carriers expected to accommodate 210 million passengers between June 1 and August 31.

That’s up a percent-and-a-half over last summer.

“The price to fly a mile for those nine carriers rose 0.8% on a year-over-year-basis,” says A4A Chief Economist John Heimlich.

Heimlich says that’s less than the inflation rate.

Meanwhile, the trade group criticized the Obama Administration and Congress for an impending increase in passenger fees.

The “typical” $300 domestic ticket already includes $62 in taxes.
