Atlanta’s dance scene is vibrant and eclectic, and we are honored to highlight some of the many local dancers that move us with their movements in our ongoing series “Speaking of Dance.” For this edition, we highlight concert and musical theater-style dancer Ayanna Dubose dancing to Donna Summer’s “Last Dance.”
“I got started dancing when I was about four years old. My mom just put me in ballet class, and I really just stuck with it,” Dubose reflects. “I really enjoyed it, and I felt like the stage was where I was supposed to be.” In 8th grade, she decided to audition for a musical and to dance on stage and has pursued that passion ever since.
A Georgia native, Dubose was born in Marietta and calls Atlanta home. “I love to call it home because everybody wants to be here. This is the best place to be,” Dubose says.
“Atlanta has influenced my dance journey just because the dancers here definitely have their own drive that is different from any other dancers that I’ve met in any other state. The drive and the passion here and the energy of Atlanta dancers is just unmatched. It’s insane. It’s great!”
