Atlanta, GA – Supporters of another proposed abortion bill this time in the Senate are hoping it will gain some momentum.
But as WABE's Rose Scott reports, the bill also impacts abortion providers in the state:
Part of Senate Bill 529 would make it a crime to abort a baby based on race.
And while they may not admit it opposing sides of bill are both asking the same question.
How do you determine if a woman is being coerced into having an abortion because of race?
Lauren Williams works as a legislative policy coordinator for a local women's clinic:
((Coercion is something we don't tolerate at all))
Williams says passing a law that also criminalizes the abortion provider puts clinics at risk:
((Cause even if we had that conversation and started to ask those questions then we couldn't be waived from liability at all)
The bill has passed thru committee it also includes a majority of the same language from a house bill that previously stalled.
