PROPEL and Southern Company are launching the PROPEL HBCU Cybersecurity Consortium. The new initiative aims to diversify the nation’s cybersecurity pipeline and workforce by equipping HBCU students with cybersecurity skills, tools and resources.

Students enrolled in PROPEL’s consortium can earn micro-credentials. They can also be matched with internships, apprenticeships, and job placements in cybersecurity.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look.” Dr. Lisa Herring, the new president of PROPEL, who formerly served as the superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools, talked with show host Rose Scott about the mission of PROPEL, its consortium and its inaugural cohort.

During the discussion, Herring also shared how cybersecurity can be a pathway to closing the wealth gap.
