New Design: Atlanta Department Of City Planning Helps Business Owners With Parklets

The National Association of City Transportation Officials defines parklets as public seating platforms that revamp curbside parking spaces into vibrant community spaces.

Atlanta City Planning Commissioner Tim Keane says Atlanta was originally designed for driving only, but the city must now shift its design to include walking, cycling and different forms of transit.

Keane and Vanessa Lira, design assistant director for the city of Atlanta, were guests on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

They talked with show host Rose Scott about how and why the city is working with local Atlanta restaurant owners to provide resources to install parklets throughout the city and how the test project could potentially become permanent, reduce congestion and enhance the vibrancy of city streets.
