New Expressway Flyover Ramps Expected to Ease Traffic in North Atlanta
The commute around north Atlanta is expected to get a little easier in the near future.
That’s due to the flyover ramps that will connect Georgia-400 southbound to Interstate-85 North and 85-South to 400 northbound.
Officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation say these ramps will ease traffic in north Atlanta.
“The surface streets, and particularly Sidney Marcus and Lenox and Cheshire Bridge… all of those areas where folks have had to use those surface streets to get from one to the other,” says GDOT spokesman Mark McKinnon.

The ramps are expected to be ready for the public in early April.
“We will be doing a safety review of those facilities and making sure that everything is perfectly safe. We don’t want let motorists on that until we know that it is going to be safe and that everything is working as it should,” says McKinnon.
In addition to the ramps, the project also includes a walking trail around Peachtree Creek.
“You know, we try to give back to the community when we have to build a facility in it and the walking trail is certainly a great addition and they’ll be working on that in the coming months and we hope to have that open later on,” says McKinnon.
The total cost of the project cost is about $22 million.
