New LGBT Youth Group Holds Community Meeting Saturday
After recent high-profile challenges at the leadership level of YouthPride, a new organization is forming.
“It’s just about youth banding together and make sure we have a voice,” says Chris Kontopidis, media liaison for JustUsAtl, a new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and transgender youth group.
Kontopidis says members want to stay away from what she calls a “contentious and political” battle surrounding YouthPride.
Formation of the new group began just last month.
Kontopidis says youth and young adults aren’t just leading the cause, but that they also plan to seek non-profit status and keep the group afloat.
“We’re reaching out through social media and our networks, but eventually we’d like to have a physical space where more people can come whenever they want,” she says.
JustUsATL holds a community meeting Saturday (March 31) at 7 at Greater Smith Church, 183 Mayson Ave, in the Kirkwood area of Atlanta.
