New podcast explores uprisings following the death of Martin Luther King Jr.
On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. Tuesday marked 55 years since his death.
Although the civil rights titan was known as an ambassador for nonviolence, his death sparked outrage.
Research suggests that nearly 200 cities experienced looting, arson, and an eruption of protests following King’s death.
It’s also estimated that at least 3,500 people were injured, 43 were killed and 2,700 people were arrested.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” show host Rose Scott spoke with Vann Newkirk II, a senior editor at “The Atlantic,” about his new podcast, “Holy Week: The Story of a Revolution Undone.”
The podcast explores the uprisings that happened across the country the week after King’s death.
