The DeKalb County Police department is getting a new police chief. County CEO Burrell Ellis appointed Cedric Alexander to the lead the embattled department this morning. Alexander has a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and previously served as Chief of the Rochester Police Department and as a police officer in Miami.
Alexander is the Federal Security Director for the Transportation Security Administration at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. He takes the helm after 2 DeKalb officers were recently arrested in a federal corruption probe, 3 former county officers were indicted last year and another 3 are under investigation. Alexander says he wants to provide support to officers and plans to take the department in a new direction.
“It is very easy to focus upon the negative things that have occurred, but that for us is no use for us. We’ve got to move forward. That is what I’m committed to do, and that’s what I’m going to do.”
And if there’s any further corruption, Alexander says he will deal with it swiftly.
