New WABE 90.1 Schedule Debuts July 29

WABE is revamping its radio schedule to better serve and engage Atlanta’s audience with more voices, perspectives and locally focused content. We are enhancing our program lineup on WABE 90.1 to improve the consistency of our schedule and introduce compelling new shows. These changes underscore WABE’s commitment to delivering the best national and Atlanta-focused programming and experiences across multiple platforms.

Our new program schedule goes into effect on Monday, July 29. The new schedule reimagines our weekday midday lineup by introducing the daily news conversation program On Point at 11 a.m., followed by WABE’s Closer Look with Rose Scott which moves an hour earlier to noon. On Monday-Thursday, it is followed by City Lights with Lois Reitzes at 1 p.m., leading into Fresh Air at 2 p.m.

Friday afternoons on WABE 90.1 will now focus on health and science programming, starting with the debut of Health Wanted with Laurel Bristow at 1 p.m. This new weekly show exploring developments in public health is produced by WABE in partnership with the Rollins School of Public Health. It is followed by the popular Science Friday hosted by Ira Flatow at 2 p.m.

On weeknights, we are adding the international news magazine The World at 7 p.m., followed by the evening rebroadcasts of Closer Look at 8 p.m. and City Lights at 10 p.m.

Weeknights at 9 p.m. will feature several engaging programs including The Pulse on Mondays, Climate One on Tuesdays, Reveal on Wednesdays, the live call-in program The Middle with Jeremy Hobson on Thursdays, and a rebroadcast of Health Wanted on Fridays.

With these changes, we will be dropping 1A from our weekday lineup. Listeners can still hear 1A live and on-demand from the program’s website.

Weekends on WABE 90.1 are expanding with new programs including the BBC’s Unexpected Elements on Saturdays at 6 a.m., NPR’s Throughline on Saturdays at 1 p.m., PRX’s No Small Endeavor on Sundays at 7 a.m., NPR’s Planet Money & How I Built This on Sundays at 11 a.m., and the live call-in program Notes from America with Kai Wright on Sundays at 6 p.m.

Several weekend listener favorites are moving to new times. Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! will now air at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturdays at 11 a.m., a new format for WABE’s Week in Review brings together the best reporting from WABE’s newsroom with samples of the hottest podcasts produced by WABE Studios. And on Sunday evenings, WABE’s weekly broadcasts of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will air an hour earlier, beginning at 7 p.m.

We are excited about these changes and we look forward to sharing these new programs with our listeners. It is our goal that these changes will enhance your listening experience and further our mission to inform, inspire, reflect and empower Atlantans.

As always, we welcome your feedback, and above all, we thank you for your continued support of WABE.
