Winston Stephens wants to make sure children, no matter their background, reach their full potential.

Stephens founded Why Not Kids just prior to the start of the pandemic. The local nonprofit aims to provide affordable child care to families in Conyers, Georgia.

The organization was forced to close during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Stephens is now working to open a new location. The new facility will offer a variety of programs, including afterschool care, and train children in trades like electrical work, carpentry, plumbing and more.

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Stephens and Bridget Benito from the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce discussed the importance of investing in children. They also talked about the strain of rising child care costs on parents in Georgia and efforts to help children and their families through the Why Not Kids programs.
