Norcross Haunted House Still Scaring up Business
The Netherworld Haunted House has been leaving people in a state of shock for 17 years.
It’s consistently ranked among the busiest—-and best—haunted houses in the country by national directory and rating groups.
Netherworld, located in Norcross, hires more than 300 people every year, and it takes about 11 months to be ready for customers who want to be frightened.
“We’ve been building things and getting actors together and creating monsters and special effects. It’s always a thrill to see them come out and enjoy all our hard work,” says co-founder Ben Armstrong.

Every year, Netherworld comes up with new themes, including 2013’s “The Dead Ones,” which features ancient, evil creatures who have been awoken after spending 1,000 years asleep.
“The best reaction is when you scare someone and they just scream, and then they laugh, because they got that surge of adrenaline, but they know they’re being scared in a safe way,” says Armstrong.
The 2013 Netherworld runs through the first weekend of November.
Shortly afterwards, work begins on next year’s haunted house.
