Oakhurst Porchfest returns, and local favorites play final show

"For the first time since 2019, Oakhurst Porchfest over the weekend had festival-goers at the steps of hundreds of nearby homes. One of the most attended was at the residence of The Lollipops, made up of Koan Roy-Mieghoo, Sean Meighoo, Deboleena Roy and Kheyal Roy-Meighoo." (Photo by Jim Burress)

The Oakhurst neighborhood in Decatur brought back its annual tradition of the Porchfest music festival this past weekend, which has grown since its inception in 2015.

Porchfest is a grassroots community event where residents turn their yards and porches into informal music venues featuring an immense variety of local jam bands, amateur singer/songwriters, and some professionals.

One act that attracted fans from previous years was neighborhood family band The Lollipops, made up of Koan Roy-Mieghoo, Sean Meighoo, Deboleena Roy and Kheyal Roy-Meighoo.

They have been performing together as a family since 2006, but this year’s Porchfest could be their final show as the group’s two younger members prepare to move on for school.
