Do you consider yourself an ATLien? Rapper and “Love and Hip-Hop” cast member Omeretta the Great may have a bone to pick with you, especially if you did not grow up in Atlanta. Her new single, “Sorry Not Sorry,” clarifies her take on what she considers the “real Atlanta.” She also challenges new comers and outsiders who claim to understand the city. Omeretta joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes via Zoom to discuss the viral hip-hop song.

Interview Highlights:

Her thoughts on when people say they’re “from Atlanta” to out-of-state people:

“I feel like it’s a cool thing to say that they are ‘from Atlanta.’ That’s what people say to others who are outside the state because that’s the major city in Georgia. Everybody want to be from Atlanta and places that they are from are not really known for real. So they’re going to say they’re from Atlanta because that’s the most neat city.”

Growing up in Atlanta:

“I take pride in where I’m from because it made me who I am today. We had to go through a lot of stuff in my neighborhood (Zone 3, Southeast Atlanta) and we weren’t that fortunate. We had to do a lot of struggling around, so I take a lot pride in the stuff that made me who I am today because it really motivated me to be stronger.

Filming the music video at Truist Park in Cobb County:

“The reason for that location was it’s the new Braves stadium. The old Braves stadium was right at Summerhill. I don’t know why they moved it all the way to Cobb … I thought that was dumb. But it was the only Braves stadium and I wanted to keep it Atlanta.” She continued, “I wore a Falcons shirt because the Braves had just won the World Series so everyone had gone and bought all the Braves merch. [laughs] So, when I went into the store, there was nothing but Falcons gear, so I had to get the Falcons shirt.”
