Dave Mattingly is an NPR News anchor, responsible for seven newscasts daily on weekday mornings. Prior to anchoring NPR newscasts in 2014, Mattingly worked 19 years in NPR’s newscast unit — primarily as a producer.
Mattingly was producing NPR’s morning newscasts during the initial hours of the Sept. 11 terror attacks – the coverage of which earned NPR a 2001 Peabody Award.
Mattingly came to NPR in 1995 as a newscast editor and producer. Prior to NPR, he was a Capitol Hill correspondent for the Standard News Radio Network in Washington, DC, covering the House of Representatives. He was also a newscast editor and anchor at the Unistar Radio Networks in Arlington, Virginia, and was news director and anchor at WINC AM-FM in Winchester, Virginia.
The Radford University graduate has received a number of awards for his work from the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters and has been inducted into WVRU Wall of Fame at his alma mater. He is a dedicated alum who, along with his wife, established the Mattingly Scholarship for WVRU to assist students at Radford University who are pursuing a career in broadcasting and broadcast journalism.
The youth soccer coach lives in Ashburn, Virginia, with his wife Jennifer and their children.
