Mary Claire Kelly is a digital producer, meaning she helps curate, create and copy edit content on WABE’s website. However, she has worn many hats at WABE. She first worked at the station as an intern while studying journalism at Emory, and returned after graduating in 2014. On the radio side of the organization, she’s been a production assistant and a “Closer Look” producer, and contributed reporting to both “City Lights” and the newsroom. In her work with the station, she has literally hugged trees, toured a monastery, taste-tested meatballs and marched with gnomes.
Kelly has previously worked as a researcher and editor with the Georgia Civil Rights Cold Cases Project at Emory, investigating racially-motivated civil rights-era cold case murders. In a previous career path, she studied Ancient Greek and mythic kingships. She was born in Baltimore and has lived in the metro Atlanta area for most of her life, but still sometimes finds herself saying “you guys” instead of “y’all.”
