The Perfect Pooch? Adventures in Rescue Dog Adoption
Thousands of animals are brought to metro Atlanta animal shelters each year. Meanwhile, a number of rescue groups are working to stem the tide and find good homes for those dogs and cats.
Of course, choosing a canine best friend can be its own adventure. Here’s what happened a few years ago when WABE’s Kate Sweeney decided to get a rescue dog herself, and took us along on the journey.

An update on this story: Kate and her husband have now had their “dream dog,” whom they re-christened Lula, for close to four years. Kate says they have learned that the rescue group worker was right: There is no “perfect” dog. But Lula is close enough.
