Closer Look: Event Inspired by Ta-Nehisi Coates Award-Winning Book Comes to Atlanta; What’s Behind The National Decline In Black Homeownership?

1:28: Since 2001 African American homeownership has declined at a greater rate than any other ethnic group, according to research from the Urban Institute. This week, the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, an affordable housing advocacy and research organization will bring local, and national, experts on homeownership to Atlanta to discuss research, policy and solutions to address the decline in black homeownership. The event, “Closing the Homeownership Gap in Metro Atlanta and Beyond,” will be held at The Carter Center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ahead of the event, we speak with Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance, Jeffrey Hicks, past President of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) and Andre Perry, a fellow at the Brookings Institution.
