Friday on “Closer Look with Rose Scott”:

  • 0:00: Rose gives a news brief about how we’re learning more about the small plane that crashed in Northwest Atlanta yesterday afternoon. There were four fatalities from the plane crash near Fulton County Airport. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the Cessna went down about a mile and a half east of the airport shortly after takeoff. Firefighters arrived to find debris across English Park, near I-285 and Bolton Road. The plane was headed to Millington Airport in Memphis. According to Atlanta Fire rescue one home nearby was damaged. No one on the ground was injured.
  • In other news, Georgia Governor-elect Brian Kemp will officially be sworn into office on January 14th at Georgia Tech’s campus. The 2 p.m. ceremony at Tech’s McCamish Pavilion came as a surprise to many because Kemp is an Athens native and a graduate of the University of Georgia.
  • Plus, one day after Uber launched their new electric scooters, Lyft has unveiled a line of their own. Lyft scooters will cost $1 to unlock and cost 15 cents per minute to ride. That’s 5 cents more per minute than Uber’s brand.
  • And, an unwanted “hitchhiker” was apprehended Tuesday morning at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It was a live, six-inch African millipede. U.S. Customs and Border Protections report that the millipede “hitchhiked” in a couple’s suitcase, flying in from South Africa. The millipede was detected by Regal, a member of U.S. Custom’s “Beagle Brigade.” The couple said that they were unsure how the millipede made its way into their suitcase. U.S. Customs is arranging for a local insectarium to take the millipede in.
  • 4:06: Earlier this year, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced that John Selden had been named general manager of the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Selden, who has over 30 years of aviation experience overall, is coming to the position from his role as deputy general manager at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. Selden joins us in studio to talk about the challenges and opportunities the Atlanta airport faces, as well as his vision for the future of Hartsfield-Jackson.
  • 24:00: Three years ago, Rose met Jocelyn Gragg, who had just started her own business, JARDí Chocolates. Fast forward to today and Gragg’s small business has grown and she’s filling more orders for custom, decorated chocolate than ever before. Still, her “focus on the flavors” remains the same. Rose returns to JARDí to see how Gragg, and her new team, are handling the holiday season.
