Closer Look: MARTA CEO Jeffrey A. Parker; Journalist Eileen McNamara on Eunice Kennedy; And More

• 0:00: The MARTA Board of Directors voted unanimously to confirm transit executive Jeffrey A. Parker as the authority’s new general manager and chief executive officer. What’s his vision for the transit agency and how does MARTA fit into regional plans for transit? Parker joins us in studio.
• 23:07: Maribeth Simmons, a catheterization laboratory nurse in the cardiac care department of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is retiring after 41 years with the company. Rose speaks to Simmons during her retirement celebration, which took place yesterday.

Kennedy and Ted Kennedy were being groomed by their father for political careers that would lead to the White House and the Senate, Eunice Kennedy was starting her own journey, one that would lead her to fight on behalf of millions of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Eileen McNamara, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author of “Eunice: The Kennedy Who Changed the World” joins us to talk about her book on the life of Eunice Kennedy and her family. We’ll also hear about the Kennedy family’s role in the civil rights movement and how the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, almost two months to the day after Dr. King’s assassination, shaped the year 1968.
