Closer Look: Remembering Aretha Franklin
Thursday on “Closer Look with Rose Scott”:
Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” died Thursday in her home city of Detroit after battling pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type. Her death was confirmed by her publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn. She was 76 years old. Franklin sold more than 75 million records during her life, making her one of the best-selling artists of all time. She took soul to a new level and inspired generations of singers who came after her.
Today is a special edition of “Closer Look” as we remember Aretha Franklin, and reflect on her life and legacy. We’re joined by international recording artist Peabo Bryson, music journalist Sonia Murray, professor Nsenga Burton, and local Atlanta artists Chelsea Shag, Alex Guthrie, and Gwen Hughes.
Closer Look is produced by Candace Wheeler, Emilia Brock and Trevor Young.
