Recycling History: Looking Back at Old City Hall East

The first round of restaurants planned to occupy Ponce City Market in Midtown has been announced—everything from upscale burgers to Szechuan fare.

The ten-story mixed-use renovation is the largest re-use project in the city’s history. As it prepares for a grand opening slated later this year, we return now to a story WABE’s Kate Sweeney did in the earliest days of renovation back in 2012—when she donned a hardhat to take a sneak-peek inside the building formerly known as City Hall East.Broadcast version of story that aired March 12, 2014

Since Kate did this story, the adjacent Fourth Ward Park and Dancing Goats Coffee Shop have opened. Planners say that new plans for recycling elements of the old building include the upkeep of a hand-operated 1926 freight elevator.
