Today, November 22, 2013, is the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
WABE, NPR, and indeed the whole nation is remembering this day with commemorations, discussions, and — for the first time — an official ceremony in Dallas at Dealey Plaza, the site where President Kennedy was killed.
The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library has put together a special digital collection for the occasion, along with a host of historic documents, photos, and recordings.
NPR has put together a special collection of its stories remembering President Kennedy on its web site.
Below, we have posted a YouTube video of President Kennedy’s famous 1961 inaugural address. As NPR has noted, Kennedy’s “Ask Not” speech is widely considered one of the most memorable inauguration speeches of modern times. You can find a transcript of the address here.
