Report: Atlanta air quality improves, but still lags behind many metropolitan areas
A new American Lung Association report says the air quality in the U.S. and metro Atlanta is getting better. However, Atlanta continues to lag behind many other cities.
The report ranked the metropolitan area the 25th worst for the number of high ozone days. But American Lung Association state director June Dean says the ranking is slightly better than last year.
“We know that improving and strengthening the Clean Air Act is making a difference for us, and here’s the proof.”
The report also ranked Atlanta the 24th worst for particle pollution. Last year, the area did not rank in the top 25. Despite this year’s ranking, Dean says Atlanta is actually doing better.
“But when we compare ourselves to other areas around the country there are many who have made more improvements.”
Dean believes further strengthening of the Clean Air Act and having more area residents carpool, walk, or use mass transit will lead to greater improvements in air quality.
